Cultural Link to Language Learning ®

"Imagine the Lord talking French! Aside from a few odd words in Hebrew, I took it completely for granted that God had never spoken anything but the most dignified English."
Clarence Day, 'Life with Father'

Each language models and conveys a group's unique experiences, its specific Weltanschauung.

Children all over the world acquire their native language without explicit teaching. This process is quite different from learning to ride a bike or learning to read. Large cultural groups have no written language and never learn to read because they are not taught to do so. However, they all have language.

This workshop acknowledges the powerful link between language fluency and cultural identity. It is specifically designed for language instructors wishing to use the 'Cultural Link to Language Learning Method®'(CLM).

CLM teaching modules use a dynamic, multi-sensory approach and link foreign language instruction with intercultural training. This allows students to master conversation in a foreign language two to three times faster than with traditional methods.

Our program connects a language's non-verbal cultural cues, signals, attitudes and behavior patterns with its cultural metaphors and sentence structure. We believe that beyond grammar every act of communication is strictly dependent on the context of communication. As a result some cultures are very skilled at using abstract language even to explain very practical things. Other cultures will use concrete language almost exclusively even for abstract thoughts.

By connecting language learning with cultural sensitivity learners can achieve a comfort in conversation and a confidence in discussion not possible with traditional foreign language instruction.
